It was that time of the year again

It's been two days now since the MAMAs and lots of stuff had been said about the show. I actually wanted to post something before the actual show happens but time was not on my side. Well, it doesn't matter because now that the MAMAs happened, I've got even more to say!

I'm pretty sure that the issues I'm going to mention had been talked about a lot because the same stuff happens every year and it annoys everybody endlessly. I didn't want to say anything about it in the first place because I never cared about it enough to share my opinion. Or to put it simply, I never gave any shit about the MAMAs for obvious reasons. But this year, something happened that - to put it in a nice way - threw me really off, especially because this is an issue that I don't expect to happen anymore in my fandom. Not after all this time where I thought my fandom is more mature than that.

It was a usual night, 4 days before the MAMAs. I was wide awake and busy doing my thing in the internet until I've read the comment section under a video that I finished watching. Yeah, I know it's not the smartest thing to read the comments on YouTube because that's where the delusional and immature part of the K-Pop fandom meets. But I did it anyways and then I found this:

I was lost for words after reading this. All this time I thought everyone knew that the whole voting thing was useless because Mnet doesn't decide the winners based on the voting. Now that I think of it, I'm pretty sure even Mnet doesn't know how they decide the winners. That's the only logical explanation why G-Dragon won the award for Best Male Solo Dance Performance. What I'm actually trying to say is that most people don't take the whole voting process serious, that's what I thought at least. But I was proven wrong because I've found these kind of comments under many videos. And this is just downright embarrassing. Not only for the person himself/herself and others who do this but also for the fandom.

What really angered me was the "...please do what a fan should do." So you want to tell me what a fan should do? Seriously? You think voting your arse off on a dumb poll for an irrelevant award is what a fan should do?

First of all: Who are you to determine what a fan should do? You're just another fan like me and thousands of other people. You have no right to tell anyone what he/she should do. It's elitist people like you who go around preaching what a real fan is and making others feel like shit because they don't follow your ideas of what real fans are supposed to do. This whole 'real fan' bullcrap needs to stop asap.

Let me get this straight for you: There is no such thing as a real fan. If you support a solo artist or a group as a whole in a positive way, you're a fan. Period. It doesn't matter if you buy all the albums and merchandise or not, if you go to all the concerts or not. You're still a fan.

Moving back to my main point: the MAMAs. As if the voting mess wasn't enough for fans to start a war, the award show itself also manages to cause an even bigger shitstorm year after year. Mnet seems to be shady as hell based on how randomly the winners are chosen. Which factors play a role in choosing out the winner in each category? No one really knows but based on observations made over the years, it's a quite known fact that if an artist doesn't attend the show, he surely isn't going to win. The "No Attendance - No Award" policy destroys the credibility of the MAMAs.

To be honest, the title itself questions the credibility of the show big time. Why call it "Mnet Asian Music Awards" when pretty much 95% of the awards are handed out only to korean artists? I think everyone knows the answer: Mnet needed a reason to hold the ceremony overseas and to make it seem like it's an important and relevant award because otherwise no one would give a shit about it. But little did they know that they did the opposite: a once credible award show became the biggest joke in the K-Pop world.

The MAMAs are already over but we all know everything is going to happen again next year unless Mnet is going to fix their problems. But seeing how they didn't fix anything until now and just made things worse, we can be sure that nothing's going to change. No surprise when you know that KingKongShit *ahem* I mean Kim Kwang Soo is one of the higher ups in Mnet.
