P’s critic #1

This Week: EXO, Kim Do Yeon, Ahreum

So I’ve been informed that EXO is going to have a comeback next week and my immediate reaction was something close to:

EXO…. Comeba...??NO NOOO NOOOOOO!!!!!!!! I DUN WANNA HEAR IT!!
(despite the fact that those 12 handsum mo’fuckers are invading my brain like only some classic JGV would usually do)

So why is that, you may ask? Answer is simple.

For my part I find it extremely hideous to release any Christmas-related songs in Korea, where Christmas isn’t even celebrated the way westerners are used to. Some of you may already know that Christmas is no family-centered, heart-warming holiday in Korea, but another date important for dating; and I mean, almost always just for dating. Therefore releasing a track like EXO is scheduled to is just another way of making money and attempting to gain recognition internationally.

OMG THEY’RE DOING A CHRISTMAS SPECIAL OMGGG;;;;;” – needless to say most Christmas releases turn out to be nothing more but shelf huggers, except they become huge hits like "Last Christmas" or something. But hey, this time SM can 100% count on the loyal support of EXO’s loyal fans, although I doubt that SM is even capable of releasing a decent track with EXO singing it, so the chance that any sane person would consider to listen to it on his/her free will might be heartbreakingly low.

Also it almost made me throw up when I first saw the teaser pictures. I mean, come on, EXO is posing as a fucking Christmas tree? How stupid is that? That’s even more cringe-worthy to watch than Crayon Pop's hideous live stages.

But hey, at least Kai knew how to maintain his dignity by striking a ballet pose. Good job, kid.

Another thing that’s pretty much driving me nuts is that Kyungsoo is supposedly involved in some big ass movie project and, oh man, I get bad flashback from EXO’s unforgettable drama version, when I think about this. It’s generally a difficult thing to understand why anyone would pick a Korean Idol star for their movie project when there are obviously shit tons of more talented and passionate, young, aspiring Korean actors out there, who end up fucking some program manager just to get a cameo. I JUST CANNOT UNDERSTAND IT. And yes, I think EXO are some of the worst actors out there. Don’t believe me? See for yourself!

(bad acting, don’t even try to deny it.)

Matter of fact, it’s so awful that I didn’t even bother to watch the sequel, or the Melon award twilight rip off.. or anything ever again.

I just wish SM would finally ease EXO’s tight ass schedule, give ‘em their break and privacy, arrest their sasaengs and generally stop putting their artist into movie role’s their not the least bit made for.

~~MOVING ON

Kim Do Yeon.

Whenever her name pops up on my twitter timeline I just wonder who the fuck she is and why the fuck she looks like one of those Gangnam made Frankensteins. (Although, on a side note: Gangnam is not entirely correct, since the big beauty clinics are situated in Sinsa)

After googling a lil bit I found out that she’s the girl who is pretty much accused of dating Infinite’s sugarboy L or MyungSoo. And oh boy, for one thing I cannot really understand how anyone can even feel attracted to a face (and probably also personality) like hers and it’s getting on my nerves as well to see how people are seriously taking it personal whenever some of their Oppas turn out to have been romantically involved with women.

Some are making a virtual witch hunt out of this instead of feeling relieved that their idol is actually a healthy young man with a healthy interest in whatever life has to give.

Which brings me to my last point: T-ARA’s former member Ahreum.

I've been following this for quite a while now and to be honest, the more I read about it and the more I see the fan reaction, the more I am genuinely concerned, because all I see and all I hear is how it is all put under the label of “possession rumors”.

WHAT THE FUCK MAN?

By now, it’s pretty obvious that this girl has some serious mental issues going on that need to be attended to ASAP before her state of mind worsens to a level where improvement is out of question. I kind of resent it so much that people still stick to that possession-stigma, like they used to decades ago, instead of calling it a mental disease and getting a proper treatment. Korea is no third world country and medical care is guaranteed, but still they treat as some exorcism thing.

NOOOO. STOP IT.

I mean, when was the last exorcism actually carried out? Somewhen in the fifties, right? This is no ghost, supernatural, spiritual issue, this is a medical issue and treatment is needed. But still nothing seems to change and all we get are those creepy messages from her on social media.

It just gives so much insight on the values of modern day culture. Mental illnesses are really nothing to be ashamed of and the earlier you’re under medical treatment the better you can carry on with the rest of your life. But instead of showing the right kind of support, fans just call her crazy, possessed and refer to shamanism (which, I know, is a deeply engraved part of Korean culture but really not the best treatment against stuff like schizophrenia).

But hey, who am I blaming? Putting kids at a young age into a pop band, letting them work their asses off under fucked up and miserable conditions, ripping them off their pay AND expecting them to be mentally stable is really a little bit too much to ask for, right?

The entertainment industry is really a lot shadier than you can think, so keep that in mind, next time you’re up for some loyal fan support.
