BTS V - Witch hunt blown out of proportion or not?

I think everyone heard about the shitstorm that hit V from BTS - or at least the people who care about him and the group. If you don't know what I'm talking about, read it here. Personally, I don't really care about boygroups but what sparked my interest was the netizen and fan reaction to the whole mess, so this is mainly going to be a piece about fan craziness and netizen hate. But before I elaborate my main point, I'm gonna skim over the incident shortly.

So, the question is: did V really mean to mock EXID or not? If you look at the situation, you could think that. Big Bang wasn't a contender for the 1st place and they weren't present so why would dude randomly sing their song when it's not really related to them winning on the show? An explanation was issued. BTS fans, or ARMYs, have been saying he's a Big Bang fan and just sang the song because he likes it. Yeah, that could be a reason but to me this explanation reeks of "Oppa didn't mean it". Well, this was an expected reaction from the BTS ARMY (literally). Not saying that ARMYs are the only ones doing this, every fandom has their apologists but most of the time you see this happen in boygroup fandoms.

Really, it's hard to tell what possibly brought him to do what he did. Maybe he did just sing it because he's a Big Bang fanboy and isn't smart enough to realize that he's on public broadcast and you could easily misunderstand things like that. But maybe he really is a douche and he did mean to mock EXID. You could interpret this in different ways, but in the end no one will really know because we don't know what was going on in his head when this incident happened. I'm not a BTS fan, I don't know them well enough to judge them so I won't. Everyone can decide what they want to believe.

Moving on to my main point: Netizens witch hunting and Fans rushing to his defense.
Many people were calling out V's behaviour and that's okay since most did try to criticize him on a rational level but things changed when ARMYs tried to defend him with ridiculous excuses. Past incidents were dug up and at some point, justified criticism turned into blind hate, making V appear as some kind of arrogant douche. Reading netizen comments on Netizen Buzz will give you a hunch about their sentiment.

The highlight was an ARMY trying to threaten/attack Netizen Buzz (for apparently creating this witch hunt when it was just her translating stuff that was already posted on Pann) in an absurd video that shows just how lunatic fans can be. The video got taken down but Asian Junkie covered it and you can find the video in the article. While I think that calling V out was justified because his actions could really be interpreted in different ways, the following launch of a witch hunt was indeed blown out too much. People tend to forget that idols are not the perfect angels that their image tries to portray, they're humans just like us, with faults and imperfections. It's okay to criticize someone when it's reasonable. Downright shitting on someone and trying to picture him or her as a demon that needs to be exiled over a harmless mistake is not okay.

There are idols with trashy personalities and if you believe there aren't, you're deluded. Fans need to accept that sometimes, your angelic oppar with that killer smile is not the prince that you dream of, sometimes he can be a dick. And it's okay! (People like Kim Hyun Joong are not okay though. Thousands of deluded fangirls still love him even after it's been proven he's utter trash.)
Sometimes, your unnir is not the sweet girl that throws winks and hearts, sometimes she's actually a sneaky bitch with attitude (right, Yewon?). And that's okay too!

Some of my faves are getting accused of being bitches, iljins and other things and I couldn't care less. I call them out if they do questionable things but most of the time I don't care, I'm not being delusional, I know they're humans just like me and sometimes they make mistakes just like I do. I love them how they are. I love it when they're being themselves instead of being fake. I want to relate to my idols and not worship them as some gods without faults. Having some quirks and imperfections makes them more likable and lovable.

On another note, ARMYs should be happy that BTS gets hated and stuff. That means they're actually getting acknowledged! And this is not necessarily a bad thing. I've heard that BTS is liked and well received internationally but domestically, they're nugus basically. You guys should be happy they're getting some exposure. I mean, they're still a young group with lots of potential to improve. They will get over it. Just like their fans should do.

My faves get hated and shitted on all the time. Do I care? Most of the time, no. To be honest, I'm quite open about my dislike for many boygroups and I talk shit about them regularly. But I don't expect anyone to love the groups that I love because you can't expect them to. That's the point. Opinions and tastes differ. And that is something that most K-Pop fans fail to realize. Well, it's easier to pull the "you're hating" card instead of just accepting that not everyone likes what you like.
